Salkantay Trek and Machupicchu 4 Days

The Salkantay Trek to Machupicchu for 4 days is the second most popular route to get to Machupicchu after the Classic Inca Trail, it is one of the most spectacular treks.

Throughout the tour you will be able to appreciate the Humantay lagoon, the snow-capped mountains, the cloud forest, the coffee plantations and finish the walk in the Inca Citadel of Machupicchu.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa.
    • Camp in Soraypampa.
  • Day 2: Soraypampa – Abra Salkantay – Chaullay.
    • Camp in Chaullay.
  • Day 3: Chaullay – La Playa – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes.
    • Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  • Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco.
    • Visit to Machupicchu and return Cusco city.
  1. Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

    Early in the morning at approximately 4.30 am, we will pick you up from your hotel, we will take a bus that will take us to Mollepata, passing through the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo where we will be at approximately 7:30 am, where we will have our breakfast, then we will prepare to start our walk first we will take a transport that will take us to Markokasa (50 min) from that point we will start our walk for an approximate time of 5 hours passing through the towns of Markokasa and Canaleta Inka and thus arriving at Soraypamapa around At 1:30 p.m. there we will have our first lunch and first camp. After lunch we can go to visit the beautiful Humantay lagoon (4200 m.s.n.m) at 1h 30 min. Where we will have beautiful views then we will return to our camp and at night we will have our dinner.

  2. Day 2: Soraypampa - Abra Salkantay - Challhuay

    At 7:00 a.m. we will have a delicious and nutritious breakfast and then continue with our walk, we start from the point of Soraypamapa to the highest point, the Abra Salkantay, which is approximately 4 hours of walking and at about 4,650 meters above sea level we will pass through Salkantaypampa and Soyrococha where we will appreciate a small lagoon then we will begin the descent to Huayracmachay for approximately 3 hours, where we will have our lunch then we will continue descending to Chaullay for 3 hours, which is at 2,900 meters above sea level, where it will be the place of our second camp.

  3. Day 3: Chaullay - La Playa - Hidroeléctrica - Aguas Calientes

    After breakfast, we will start our walk of approximately 7 hours until we reach the beach, walking through the jungle and following the banks of the Salkantay river, on the way we will pass through several family farmhouses where we will see passion fruit, banana, coffee, avocado plantations , mango, orange and papaya, as well as maybe you can see the cock of the rocks.

    In La Playa we will have our lunch, after a short rest we will take the bus that will take us to the hydroelectric, the trip lasts approximately one hour, from there we will continue walking along the train tracks until we reach Aguas Calientes, where we will check into our hotel , later we will have our dinner and spend the night.

  4. Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

    This day we will visit Machupicchu, we will get up very early at 3:30 am, to take the first bus to Machupicchu and see the sunrise over the ruins.

    The guided tour of the Inca Citadel of Machupicchu lasts about 2 hours and 30 minutes, during the guide he will explain the most important aspects of Machupicchu, then he will have time to explore the ruins by himself.

    Finally we will take the return bus to Aguas Calientes where we will take the return train to Ollantaytambo and then a return bus to the city of Cusco and back to your hotel.
