Choquequirao is one of the most beautiful places in Peru, this archaeological center is the brother of the citadel of Machupicchu, since they present architectures of similar designs, this was the last Inca refuge that continued with the resistance of the Spanish, this walk will take you outside From the frequent roads, you will not reach Machupicchu, but you will discover another lost Inca citadel, this spectacular archaeological site was hidden in the mountains for several centuries and was recently discovered.

Trek to Choquequirao 5 Days

The name Choquequirao means “Cradle of Gold”, it is located by the Apurimac River and is surrounded by beautiful glaciers, high peaks, amazing snow-capped mountains, Choquequirao is known as the lost city of the Incas and is rarely visited by tourists.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc – Rosalina Beach.
    • Camp in Rosalina Beach.
  • Day 2: Rosalina Beach – Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao.
    • Camp in Marampata.
  • Day 3: Choquequirao.
    • Visit to Choquequirao.
  • Day 4: Choquequirao – Marampata – Chikisca.
    • Camp in Chikisca.
  • Day 5: Chikisca – Capuliyoc – Cusco.
    • Return to the city of Cusco.
  1. Day 1: Cusco - Cahora - Capuliyoc - Rosalina Beach

    Temprano por la mañana aproximadamente a las 04:00 am lo recogeremos de su hotel para luego tomar el transporte que nos llevara hasta Capuliyoc el viaje dura unas 4 horas. Durante este trayecto veremos vistas espectaculares de los pueblos andinos, valles y montañas nevadas. En Capuliyoc nos encontraremos con el personal que empacaran todo nuestro equipo en los caballos de carga. Desde aquí, podemos disfrutar de la espectacular vista de las ciudad inca de Choquequirao, el cañón del Apurimac y las impresionantes montañas nevadas como Padreyoc, Qoriwayrachina , Pumasillo.

    Luego caminaremos cuesta abajo por 3 horas a Chikisca donde almorzaremos. Después de un breve descanso continuamos por 2 horas más cuesta abajo hasta nuestro primer campamento en La Playa Rosalinas.

  2. Day 2: Rosalina Beach - Santa Rosa - Marampata - Choquequirao

    After breakfast we will continue our walk to the Inca citadel of Choquequirao, we will cross the bridge and walk for 2 hours to reach Santa Rosa, here we will have a short break, then we will continue on a narrow path for approximately 3 hours until we reach Marampata where we will have lunch. enjoying the beautiful view that this place offers us.

    After lunch, we walk for 2 more hours until we reach the camping area where we will spend our second night, just 20 minutes from the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex.

  3. Day 3: Choquequirao

    This day we will visit the archaeological complex of Choquequirao, the guide will take you through the agricultural terraces, we will visit each of the archaeological sectors explaining the history and importance of the site, after the visit we will return to the camp to eat a delicious lunch prepared by our Chef . After lunch, we will go to visit the terraces of the llamas restored about 300 meters below the main structures such as; the house of the inca, main temple, temple of water.

    In the afternoon we will begin the return walk visiting the priest’s house and the platform of sacrifices and rituals, hoping to be able to observe the condors again on their return flight.

  4. Day 4: Choquequirao - Marampata - Chikisca

    After having our breakfast, we will begin our way back, first we will head towards Marampata and then we will begin the descent to Santa Rosa and then arrive at the banks of the Apurímac river, in this place we will have our lunch.

    After a brief rest we will continue our walk for 2 hours until we reach Chikisca, in this place we will set up our last camp to spend the night and we will have our dinner.

  5. Day 5: Chikisca - Capuliyoc - Cusco

    This new day after having our breakfast, we will start the walk early with the ascent to the Capuliyoc pass, from where we will be able to appreciate the Apurímac Canyon.

    After lunch and a short rest we will begin our return trip by bus to the city of Cusco.
