The Classic Inca Trail of 4 Days and 3 nights to Machupicchu, is a walk that allows us to get to know one of the modern Wonders by the original path used by the Inca Culture.

During the journey, you will be able to enjoy a walk in which we will discover magical places such as the Llactapata complex, the Pacaymayo valley or the archaeological complexes of Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca, as well as a great variety of flora and fauna. On the last day we will live a unique moment, we will arrive at Machupicchu through the “Puerta del Sol”, where we will enjoy the magical sunrise over the “Sacred Citadel of the Incas”.

This Classic Inca Trail to Machupicchu 4-day trek follows the original path used by the Inca culture to reach Machupicchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the 7 Wonders of the World. By taking the Inca trail, not only will you experience a route of great historic and cultural significance, but you’ll also visit a variety of archaeological sites only accessible via The Inca Trail. Walking along this striking stone-built trail, you’ll be immersed in a biologically diverse forested environment with dramatic topography. On the final day, you will live a unique moment arriving at Machupicchu through the spectacular Puerta de Sol during sunrise to overlook the Sacred Citadel of the Incas.

  • Day 1: Cusco – Piscacucho – Km. 82 – Wayllabamba.
    • Camp in Wayllabamba.
  • Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo.

  1. Day 1: Cusco - Kilometer 82 - Wayllabamba

    You’ll begin this adventure with an early pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. After an hour and a half drive, we’ll stop in the quaint and charming town of Ollantaytambo for breakfast. From here, we make our way via bus to start The Inca Trail at the famous Km 82 in the town of Piskacuchu(2,750m/ 9,020ft). The trek begins walking through the valley for 2 hours to our lunch site in the traditional Quechua village of Miskay. From here, we will visit our first archeological site, Patallacta, featuring terraces and remnants of walled houses surrounded by steep valley walls. Here, your guide will give you a thorough interpretation of the site and its historical/cultural significance. Then, another two hours more of walking to reach our first campsite, Wayllabamba (3,000m/ 9,800ft). Take time to rest and enjoy more of our chef’s food.

  2. Day 2: Wayllabamba - Warmiwañusca - Pacaymayo

    We will start today early to reach our highest point of the trek, Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass(4,215m/ 13,829ft). You’ll be well fed with a hearty breakfast and coca tea, which will help adjust your body to the altitude, before making the 4-hour trek to the top. Throughout this leg, you’ll see firsthand the altitudinal gradients on the steep slopes as we pass through different ecological biomes. Once we reach the top, we’ll be able to enjoy the spectacular views of the immense topography from the lush, jagged valley slopes to the glacier-covered mountains in the distance. We will then continue, descending to our second camp, Pacaymayo (3600mt/ 11,800ft). Take this free afternoon to rest and enjoy the area.

  3. Day 3: Pacaymayo - Warmiwañusca - Wiñaywayna

    Today we travel through a variety of archeological sites as we get closer to Machupicchu. Our first site is Runcurakay Pass and ruins (3,760m/ 12,300ft) just 45 minutes from camp. Along the trail will also visit the Quechua archaeological sites of Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca. Our camp for the last night on The Inca Trail is at the Wiñaywayna site. Tonight we will have a celebratory dinner to say goodbye to our Inca Trail porters.

  4. Day 4: Wiñaywayna - Machupicchu - Cusco

    Today, we start early hiking the final stretch of the Inca Trail towards the lost city of Machupicchu. This route features the impressive and notable Puerta del Sol, an outlook giving panoramic views of the citadel of Machupicchu. From here, we will arrive at Machupicchu. After check-in, we’ll enjoy a 2-hour tour of the Inca citadel, as always, with your guide sharing their expertise and knowledge. After the tour, we will choose to take a bus or walk an hour to the nearby town, Aguas Calientes. Enjoy lunch and free time to explore the town before returning to Ollantaytambo by train and then by bus back to the city of Cusco, arriving later in the evening.

What do we recommend to bring

It is important to take into account that passengers arriving in Cusco must be there at least two days before to acclimatize and make the trek.

For this route it is also recommended to bring the following:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Mountain boots, good quality waterproof, comfortable for the walk.
  • Waterproof clothing, plastic rain poncho, you can buy it when you arrive in Cusco.
  • Change of clothes for the entire route.
  • Rain gear, jacket and pants.
  • Warm clothing, jacket, fleece, and thermal clothing, especially for sleeping.
  • Light clothing, t-shirt, shorts.
  • Flashlight either handheld or front with additional battery.
  • Camera or camcorder, with an extra battery, batteries discharge faster in the cold.
