This tour will take you to see the Humantay Lagoon and cross the Salkantay pass, the Humantay lagoon characterized by its turquoise color, created by the melting of the snowy Humantay that is located at 4,200 meters above sea level, belonging to the Andes mountain range, becoming one of the most visited tourist places in Cusco.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Cusco – Challacancha – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake.
    • Camping night.
  • Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Cusco.
    • Return to Cusco city.
  1. Day 1: CUSCO - CHALLCANCHA - SORAYPAMPA - LAGUNA HUMANTAY

    At 4.30 am, your mountain guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. The first stop will be in Mollepata town to have breakfast. We will then continue our route to Challacancha where we start our experience by beginning our trek to Soraypampa. Our staff will be waiting for you here with an exquisite lunch. Here, enjoy some downtime and a chance to acclimatize while overlooking the majestic, glacier-covered Salkantay and Humantay. In the late afternoon, we will get ready to start a light walk towards the Humantay lake, located at 4,200 m (13.800 feet).Walking Distance: 12 km/ 7.5 miles.

    • Hiking hour: 7 hours roughly.
    • Campsite elevation: 3890 m (12,800 feet ).
    • Difficulty: Moderate.
    • Temperature: cold, windy.
    • Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
  2. Day 2: Soraypampa - Paso Salkantay - Cusco

    Today is the big day; we will reach the highest point of the trek crossing wonderful landscapes and large mountains. After breakfast, we gradually ascend to the section known as “The path of the 7 snakes”, until we reach the impressive Abra Salkantay at 4,638 m (15,213 feet). Here time really freezes as you enjoy the view of the dramatic snow-capped mountains, feeling the force of nature. We start our return crossing a large rocky landscape descending towards Soyrococha, Salkantaypanpa, and Soraypampa. In the distance, we will see the aftermath of a large famous rockslide. We then continue with our final steps to camp where we will have our delicious lunch. Transportation to Cusco will be waiting for us and we will arrive at approximately 6 pm.

    • Hiking hours: 7 to 8 hours roughly.
